Taking a true story as its inspiration, writer/producer/director Andrew Traucki's thriller pitches four desperate souls against a relentless underwater menace in the middle of the ocean. The reviews are generally good for this one but did your hosts agree with the critics? It's a million miles from last episode's Sharknado 5 in terms of tone but does the more serious angle work? It's the most wonderful time of the year for shark movie enthusiasts because SUMMER OF SHARKS is back for a third run! Slap on that sunscreen and head for the beach because there's something deadly in the water - and in the air, because we're covering SHARKNADO 5: GLOBAL SWARMING!
Hayley and Darren are, in general, big fans of the 'Nado but the previous entry in the series left them relatively cold. Does the fifth movie steer things back into more agreeable waters? Expect the chat to dive into the various cameo apperances, the globe-hopping nature of the plot and *that* final twist! It's a rousing opening to another shark-infested summer!

Episode 101 of The HD Movie Podcast is here! As always, Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell are your hosts on a continuing tour through movies of any year, any genre and any quality.
The podcast kicks off its second century of episodes with the only film that could follow up the previous delve into movie-related urban legends. It is, of course, 1999's URBAN LEGEND, directed by Jamie Blanks and featuring, among others, a young Jared Leto. Apparently Jared doesn't want to talk about this movie but we do and we will!
We don't just talk about the incredibly attractive cast (although Darren has always been distracted by Rebecca Gayheart). There's the odd horror icon or three showing up, an amusing singalong (on the film, not on the podcast), Pam Grier appreciation and how to conveniently ignore a murder for the sake of the plot. From trains to twins, currency to coronavirus, Marisa to munchkins, Hayley and Darren chat about those things that definitely happened during the making or screening of movies - or did they? Episode 99: LISTENER’S CHOICE #3 - Restless Natives

Episode 99 of The HD Movie Podcast is here! Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell are back to continue their journey through movies of any year, any genre and quality.
Before the podcast clocks up the century, it's time for a third Listener's Choice episode! Hayley and Darren put all of the eclectic selections into the HDMP hat and the film drawn out was 1985's RESTLESS NATIVES, suggested by Kevin Matthews. So we have a film about Scotland, directed by an American, discussed by a Welsh woman and a Yorkshireman.
Two friends, disenchanted by the lack of opportunities in Edinburgh, take to the road and hold up tourist coaches with novelty joke shop items. Do they become Scottish folk heroes in the process? Of course they do! However, the cops are hot on their heels. Did this well-regarded piece of whimsical comedy charm your hosts as much as it did the critics?

Episode 98: Love, Bubbles And Crystal Cove

Episode 98 of The HD Movie Podcast is here! Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell pick out another movie from their perennially relaxed criteria list of any year, any genre and any quality.
This episode, that "any quality" statement could be getting a serious workout as your hosts take a look at LOVE, BUBBLES AND CRYSTAL COVE! It's a Hallmark-esque movie with all the tropes your hosts now know and, er, love, as a small town business woman comes face to face with a corporate raider. But here's the catch - they were childhood sweethearts! Stop groaning at the back...
There's lots to unpack as Hayley and Darren get to grips with the usual bunch of weird local types, the three pillars of successful enterprises, an odd notebook, the least eventful reunion ever, an unnerving amount of grinning and a whole lot of smells.

Episode 97 of The HD Movie Podcast is here! If it's a movie, Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell are here to take a look at it. Doesn't matter about the genre, year or quality.
In this episode, your hosts discuss a movie that hit cinemas at the start of 2023 and has recently been released on Blu-Ray - it's M3GAN, directed by Gerard Johnstone! The Blu-Ray boasts two different versions of the film - the Theatrical Cut and the Unseen Edition which promises more blood, more violence and more M3GAN!
Of course, being the gorehounds they are, Hayley and Darren headed straight for the Unseen Edition and they'll be covering the differences between that one and the version seen on the big screen. There's also talk of how PG-13 rated horror isn't necessarily a bad thing, how their least favourite trope is dealt with in this film and much, much more, including the rather smart marketing campaign for what looks like becoming a brand new horror franchise...

In this episode, it's a '95 double bill! Your hosts discuss a couple of fashion-related flicks from 1995 but other than that connection, they couldn't be much further from each other. First up is teen comedy juggernaut CLUELESS, which made a superstar of Alicia Silverstone and introduced a number of Valley Girl slang terms into our vocabulary. Following this is THE WASP WOMAN, which made superstars of no one and introduced...well, we'll get back to you on that one.
On the agenda: The youthful powers of Paul Rudd; which band should always be on a soundtrack; the issues of a major babe drought; a secretary who just can not keep a secret; and, of course, monster violence and sexuality as brought to you by the MPAA! All this and more besides!

This time out, it's the first of our Spouse's Request episodes, in which Hayley and Darren have to watch a movie picked by their other half. Darren's wife Alison gets the honour first, and she picked 1988's COCKTAIL, starring Tom Cruise, which she remembers watching in the US. She also knows that Darren has never liked the film - will another watch mellow his dislike of it? Spoiler: It doesn't, so get ready for some forthright opinions.
