Episode 21: Commando/The Convenient Groom

Episode 21 of The HD Movie Podcast is here! Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell are back to look at films of any genre, and year and any quality.
First up this time it's a Movie Challenge as Hayley watches 80s Arnie action flick COMMANDO for the first time. What did she think of it and will she able to stop Darren quoting various lines from the movie?
After all of the carnage of Commando, things take a more gentle turn as the podcast heads back to its "Ambitious Women, Romantic Complications" segment to look at the Hallmark movie THE CONVENIENT GROOM featuring a clinical psychologist with a web series and a stockbroker-turned-woodworker. And you thought Commando was far fetched...

Episode 20: Saturday Night Fever/Walking On Sunshine/Never Go With Strangers

Somehow we've reached Episode 20 of The HD Movie Podcast! Because it's a minor milestone, Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell are here to bring you a bumper episode as they look at a classic, a not-so-classic and a notorious Public Information Film.
First up, our hosts take a look at 1977's SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER starring (as if you need to be told) John Travolta in a gritty look at Brooklyn life with an iconic soundtrack.
Following this, the soundtrack skips forward to the 1980s and the film itself skips forward to 2014 as there are ambitious women and romantic complications in the jukebox musical WALKING ON SUNSHINE!
To round off, it's back to the world of Public Information Films and it's time to deal with arguably the most controversial one of all time - it's 1971's NEVER GO WITH STRANGERS!

Episode 19: A Ghost Waits (Special Guest: Adam Stovall)

Episode 19 of The HD Movie Podcast is here and it's a very special one!
If you can cast your mind all the way back to Episode 2, Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell discussed their Top Ten Horror Films of 2020 and A Ghost Waits topped both of their lists. Following that, it's Public Information Film time again and this one is all about face masks. No, it's not from 2021, it's from 1941, although A-TISH-OO! has many parallels with modern day lockdown issues.

Following that, it's a trip back to the 80s and a cult horror/comedy that's made its bow on the streaming services in recent weeks - a bunch of iconic fiends form horror history threaten small town America and only the kids can save the day in Fred Dekker's THE MONSTER SQUAD!

Episode 15: Mikey/The Good Son

Episode 15 of The HD Movie Podcast is here and this time Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell take on a double Movie Challenge with a "Killer Kids" theme!
First up, it's Dennis Dimster-Denk's 1992 slasher MIKEY in which a foster child turns out to be bad news for both his new parents and those around him.
The double bill is rounded out with Joseph Ruben's 1993 thriller THE GOOD SON featuring a young Elijah Wood and a certain Macaulay Culkin who took on a much darker role than usual in this one.
Our hosts also delve into the censorship problems both films encountered in the UK.

On a lighter note, this episode also features the 1965 Public Information Film DRESSED FOR DROWNING from the Worthing Water Safety Committee. If you fall into water fully clothed, those clothes can save you! Find out how, all set to a jaunty soundtrack!
