Episode 53: Valentine/All Things Valentine

Episode 53 of The HD Movie Podcast and your hosts Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell are grudgingly getting into the romantic February spirit by discussing two Valentine-related movies!
First up, it's Jamie Blanks' VALENTINE from 2001, in which cult TV stalwarts of the time David Boreanaz and Katherine Heigl show up in a big studio slasher where the female characters are front and centre (and there's one of the worst prop heads of all time).
After that, it's time to swap one kind of horror for another as Hayley and Darren face down another Hallmark movie! ALL THINGS VALENTINE follows (ambitious) dating coach called Avery whose life is (romantically) complicated when she unwittingly becomes involved with a guy who's recently been dumped because of her advice. Shenanigans ensue!
Get ready for a 180 from one of the hosts regarding one of this week's movies and a point at which Hayley may never stop laughing. Also, Darren tones down his Marley Shelton fandom.

Episode 52: Troll/Troll 2/Best Worst Movie

Episode 52 of The HD Movie Podcast here! Your hosts Hayley Alice Roberts and Darren Gaskell return to properly kick off their run for 2022 after the extra unscheduled episode covering the new Scream movie.
And what a start to the new run it is as it's a bumper episode covering the Troll saga! First up, it's John Carl Buechler's TROLL from 1986 in which a young lad called Harry Potter gets embroiled in a tale involving monsters and magic. That sounds familiar...
In the middle of our tasty Troll baloney sandwich it's Claudio Fragasso's (or is it Drake Floyd's?) 1990 masterpiece TROLL 2, a movie which has been widely hailed as one of the very worst of all time. Does it live down to its expectations and, if so, is it possible to enjoy it on any level?
Rounding off our triple Troll threat is Michael Stephenson's 2009 documentary BEST WORST MOVIE which takes an affectionate look at the making of TROLL 2, catching up with its cast and delving into how the film has been reassessed over the years.
Expect embarrassed actors, quotable lines of dialogue, why it's always useful to be able to read a word backwards and much more as Hayley and Darren face this Troll invasion (well, it's mostly goblins, but there you go).

Hayley and Darren are big fans of the Scream franchise so they've got a fair amount to say about this new movie and whether or not it holds up alongside the previous four flicks. Expect low-key Sidney Prescott worship, a worrying level of enthusiasm for gory kills, a number of callbacks and that all-important ranking of the entire series!

One of the early Golan-Globus era Cannon Film productions, Emmett Alston's 1980 slasher centres on punk rock/new wave icon Blaze (aka Diane Sullivan) who's hosting an end of year TV music show. One of the callers to the programme is intent on ruining her night by committing a murder as the clock strikes midnight in each US show. Can the killer be stopped? Is Blaze in danger? And what's going on with the ridiculous plotting?
